Is it Hard to Start a YouTube Channel?

Youtubing can be hard to start up, but it isn’t impossible. It takes a lot of hard work for your channel to be successful.

Starting a YouTube channel isn’t easy. You have to be patient to get desired results. There are lots of little factors that go into it like videography, marketing, creating, editing, and so much more. Everybody can start a YouTube channel, but not everybody can be successful at it.

Here are some reasons why starting a YouTube channel is hard, but also why it is possible.

Starting a Channel

Starting a YouTube channel is a huge moneymaker these days, with ads, brand deals. and sponsored videos. The question is it hard to start a YouTube channel is very complex. Yes, anybody can create a channel, but not everybody can build a following and make money off of it. There are many different factors that go into it.

Literally, anybody can start a YouTube channel. As long as you have an electronic device and a way to record and edit videos, you are good to go. All you have to do is go to YouTube.com, click on the icon in the upper right corner, go to settings, click on create a new channel, and type in the name. It is very simple.

But this is the easiest part. Now that you have a channel, you need to figure out what the channel is about. What is your niche? What do you want to be known for? What do you like to do? What are you interested in? Who do you want to watch your videos? These are all questions you can ask yourself to help you narrow down what the channel will be about. This will help you narrow down a name.

Once you have created the channel, you need to customize your home screen with a profile picture and YouTube banner. Add in a bio so that watchers will know what kind of content to expect. Don’t just pick any picture or bio, really be intentional. Figure out the main colors you will use, the tone of your voice, the style of videos, and so much more. Have fun with it. This is a very creative process and can sometimes be the best part. You are planning a vision and helping it come to life.

Creating Content and Targeting an Audience

Once you have figured out what your channel is and what it is about, it is time to create the content. Before hitting the record button, you need to plan your videos. Make sure they align with your channel goals and your niche. Figure out who you are speaking to.

It may sound smart to create something that everybody will like, but if you do that you are marketing to nobody. Pick a certain audience. Narrow down the demographics and their interests. This will help you narrow down your content as well.

Once you know what kind of content you need to create, make sure it is original. Create something unique to you and your channel. Content should either empower, educate, or entertain. Make sure the videos are in one of those categories. This is not easy. Planning beforehand can make it a little easier. Once you film the video, you need to edit and put the finishing touches on the video, and hit upload! The most important tip is to be consistent with your videos. Nobody is going to follow you and your channel if you only upload only once a month.

Marketing and Monetizing

Most of you reading this who want to start a YouYube channel are hoping to make some money off of your videos. This is possible, but it takes a lot of time. You have to build a following before you can have ads on your videos and work with brands on sponsorships. A great tool is the analytics that YouTube provides for you. You can see how many viewers you have, how engaging they are with your videos, and where they are coming from. This helps you assess your current strategies and improve your channel.

Putting Yourself on the Internet

Being on the internet can take a big toll on you. Knowing that there is a video of you that everybody can see can be very nerve-wracking. It will take time to get over that. There is also still cyberbullying present on the internet. It is easy to say that you won’t look at any hate comments, but it is also so tempting.

Being on the internet is vulnerable enough, without people being able to comment on all of your hard work.

You need to be careful about what you post as well. Think about your family and friends seeing it, future employers, your children. The internet is permanent. Don’t create content that is going to haunt you further in your career.

It Takes Time

Once you create the channel and make the content, and market it to the best of your ability, it still takes time to be successful. You need time for the followers to find you and or YouTube to understand what your channel is so that they can put it into the correct spot on the algorithm. Even if you are discouraged, don’t give up. Stay consistent with your content, and keep it original.

All of the successful YouTubers probably wanted to give up at some point in their career, but they didn’t and that is why they are where they are now. Everything good takes time, especially YouTube. In this day and age, it is so easy to get what we need immediately. We aren’t used to setting goals and sticking to them.

All of this can be very overwhelming. YouTube is much more than recording and editing videos. Creating a successful YouTube channel is not easy, but it is possible with the right steps and strategies. It will be worth it once you are able to engage with a following and monetize your brand!
