Why Aren’t My YouTube Shorts Taking Off?

YouTube is a place where a lot of people are going nowadays to make money and provide entertainment for the rest of the world. However, that venture can sometimes become frustrating, especially if at first, your content is not becoming as popular as you want it to. This leads us to the question of why aren’t your YouTube shorts taking off, and can that be fixed?

A YouTube short might not be taking off because it has no sense of purpose, is slow, boring, or another reason similar to these. Shorts are meant to be quick and to the point, so if they last too long or there is a lack of content, they are not going to become popular or be viewed often.

YouTube shorts still need to have plenty of thought put into them and they should be undertaken with a lot of work. That might initially sound overwhelming, but don’t worry because it can surely be done. If you are currently wondering what you can do to make your shorts take off faster, then read on to learn a few tips!

Why Aren’t My YouTube Shorts Taking Off?

There are a few potential reasons as to why your shorts haven’t become popular and caught fire just yet. First, consider the YouTube algorithm. When a video is first put onto the platform, YouTube will test the video with an audience, so to speak. This will take a little while, so if your video doesn’t initially get any views, it might not be anything you need to worry about.

Now, if it has been a few weeks since you posted the short and nothing has happened, that probably means there is a problem that lies with the videos and not YouTube itself. You can still make content that’s going to get views, but first, you need to identify exactly what the problem is with the videos that you’ve created already.

First, you need to consider how much movement a video contains as well as the kind of energy you’re displaying in a piece of media. If there’s not enough movement, viewers are quickly going to get bored and choose to watch something else. Likewise, if the energy of a video is slow and tired, you’re going to lose viewers pretty quickly.

All YouTube shorts need to have a purpose and direction. Not many people are going to sit through a video that they aren’t sure why it was even created in the first place. If your video doesn’t even have a purpose that you can name, it won’t get many views.

How Do I Fix This?

If you wish to fix each of these problems, you’re going to have to do the opposite of what you’ve been doing already. You have plenty of talent and that talent can certainly be shared. You just might have to tweak your methods a little and change the way you showcase all of it.

For starters, remember that YouTube shorts are called shorts for a reason. You don’t want to go making them too long because you’re going to wind up with the problem of viewers losing interest quickly. Alas, the day and age we live in means short attention spans that require even shorter and more direct forms of entertainment. Keep your shorts under one minute long.

Next, ask yourself the question “why would someone want to watch this video?” Remember that if even you can’t come up with a good reason, then no one else will be able to either. Make certain you know what the purpose of your video is before you put it on YouTube. This will make it easier for viewers to have a desire to see more of your content.

You will also need to make the video engaging. This can be somewhat difficult if you don’t know what you’re doing. You need to keep it short and to the point. However, even if your video is short, that doesn’t mean everybody is going to want to watch it if the video isn’t exciting. Make it engaging and maybe even have a lot of movement if possible.

Ideas for YouTube Shorts

Now that you have a slightly better idea of how to create successful shorts, you may be looking for some ideas. Truthfully, there are a lot of possibilities as to what you can do with YouTube shorts, and you might want to try a few experiments to see what works for your channel. Meanwhile, here are a couple of ideas that might help get you started.

First, you can recycle your old content into shorts. This might consist of making a quick compilation of clips from a bunch of your old videos. This will help you to bring your old content out of the shadows as well, as get you more views for your channel overall. Do this a few times and see if it works for you.

Do what Channel Makers refers to as myth-busting. This means you take a common belief or practice (often this comes in the form of a life hack) and give it a try. If it doesn’t work, you can bust that myth for the world to see. This is a fairly popular form of video nowadays, so give it a try.

You can also try some micro-projects and micro-reviews. A micro-project consists of you taking an at-home project, say, the refurbishing of a piece of furniture. Take clips and snapshots of the project’s progress and compile it into a short. This will allow people to see all your hard work, plus it makes for a very satisfying watch. This is also a fun way to document projects that you enjoyed!

Micro-reviews are also fun, and the good news here is that there are just about no limits as to what you might choose to review. You can take a food product, any other type of product, media, movies, and whatever else and review it. The review can be good or bad. This is a form of opinion-sharing, but you can also open the eyes of others to faulty products that might not work as well as they’re supposed to.
